About Wicked Octane:

The idea for creating this site was born out of the desire to create a comprehensive information source for auto enthusiasts in the Midwest. I own a few cars that could be considered in the enthusiast category, including a 1996 Saleen Speedster Mustang, 2006 Audi A8 and a 1966 Buick Electra 225 that was the last car that my grandfather purchased. So very different vehicle representations from very different era’s, leaving me with more questions than answers in regards to maintenance, body work, and storage needs not to mention a wide range of technologies from somewhat primitive to downright amazing. I felt that if I had these questions, others would too.

  • For instance where do you take a 1966 Buick for:
    • Drum brake work (remember those)?
    • Carburetor work?
    • Restoration (paint, interior and exterior bodywork)?
  • And my Saleen Mustang was heavily modified to the point of receiving it’s own VIN number from the federal government. So where would the best place to take it for:
    • Alignment work?
    • Suspension parts replacement?
    • Body kit restoration or replacement?
    • Safe wheel balancing or restoration?
  • I use my Audi A8 almost exclusively for road trips, because it does everything well… comfortable ride, all-wheel drive, killer stereo, fast (when necessary) and gets 28 mpg on the interstate. But where is the best place to for these repairs/maintenance:
    • Timing belt component replacements?
    • Suspension component replacements?
    • Engine work?
    • Electronic issues?

So the purpose of this site is to ask the questions, research them with the amazing car community and provide best practices for supporting our auto addictions.

After hearing about and attending the Cars and Coffee auto show in 2015, I was amazed at the depth and quantity of enthusiast cars on display. It was also my first experience to see the garage condo concept, where enthusiasts have garages that range in size from a single space to space for several cars. These garages were also customized from simple garage spaces to elaborate designs. Add in the sense of community with the owners and it became a magical place for auto enthusiasts.
